But overall it's not in the EU interest to encourage an exit in case it sets a precedent. I would think they would stick to their guns and enforce the old rules in return for trading.
So we get to keep the rules but without a say?
But does anyone else WANT to leave the EU anyway? I thought the rest were all keen to stay regardless.

For me, it's whether they pull up the draw-bridge to fortress Europe (i.e. impose import tariffs). To say, they wouldn't because we're a big market to them, will it play out like that? If the Spanish (to use them as an example again) say get uppity about no access to our fishing waters, could they force changes from other EU members? (or will the German interest to sell us their cars trump Spanish complaints).
        New to Volkswagen emissions?

I do, but if you think you'll have anything beyond the illusion of sovereignty after leaving the EU you're a fool. This country isn't big enough any more; you'd think the post-war period would have woken everyone up to that fact, but I guess short memories are out in force.

This is what I don't understand, I've heard this said a few times. Big enough for what? I imagine we will still trade with the EU and other countries. We have a negative import balance with the EU so I can't see them being dicks about leaving.

Our military is one of the largest and best medium sized in the world, so I can't see anyone invading us.

The UK seems to have little influence within the EU. In fact the EU seems to lurch from one crisis to the next without a coherent voice.

The UK is also a bit out of the way and people don't tend to play Risk with the real world much any more, hence nukes not being useful in real-world military scenarios.

Your other points are likely true, but again the point is: is it better to be in the EU and have a say over legislation or outside and have to implement it anyway in exchange for free-trade with the EU? I don't see how it's sovereignty when you have less control.

Outside, if we don't like the legislation, we can look to trade elsewhere. Inside, we have no choice but to obey, and our ability to negotiate trade agreements elsewhere is curtailed.

To address your question, the "thickos" as you call them are more likely to be able to earn a crust if the UK is able to limit the numbers of immigrants, which the UK Government obviously can't while the UK remains in the EU.

So the "clever", who vote to stay, on the grounds they can prosper anywhere, are arguably saying "Sod the thickos - I'm alright Jack!". How selfish, quite apart from being incorrect. Nobody will be safe for long if we stay!
I was tongue-in-cheek referring to the results of a poll.
How are the thickos going to earn a crust of there's less inward investment and multinationals go elsewhere?
In spite of everything Britains unemployment rate is quite low now.
                  Hard Brexit now!

Where is "elsewhere" exactly? Most of elsewhere is becoming trading blocs that won't be that easy to access unless you've got something they want. Last time I checked this wasn't exactly an economic superpower, nor do we have much in the way of natural resources, so if we tell the EU to take a hike where are we going?
