    Questions:
How many people will you normally have in the car?
How often will you be taking the dog in the car?
How many miles a year will you do?
How many years will you keep the car?

I'd probably suggest the Skoda Yeti as a choice. The boot isn't massive, but it depends on your answers above.

    Others to consider:
Audi A4 Avant - big boot for a car that isn't massive
Dacia Duster (or is that too 4x4 ish) - you could almost get a new one for 12k
    Fiat Panda 4x4
    Fiat 500L
…Maybe we ain’t that young anymore

I had one as a company car during a permie stint a while back and used to cart around a couple of Staffordshire Bull Terriers in it. The boot is huge, you wont have a problem even with a big dog like a mastiff. The problem with the 4x4's like the landrovers or the modern SUV's is that all though the the boot space is taller, it's actually quite shallow in depth. So the dog can stand up easily but won't have much room to lie down or turn around.

If you want some offroad abilty without buying a full on 4x4 then the XC70 is worth a look but will be stretching the budget f for the 4 wheel drive version.

          • Thanks. Generally just myself and my little boy, but we do sometimes have a carful. I'd like to be able not to have to rely on having the rear seats down.
          • I can't see my needing to transport the dog in the car much - our new house has been chosen with the dog in mind, so it's close to areas to walk etc. I don't envisage needing to load the dog into the car every weekend for walks.
          • I generally do around 20k miles per year.
The A4 avant isn't big enough for the type of dog I'm getting, nor I suspect are a couple of the others there? But as for the Dacia -

Thank you for your reply though

I hadn't considered that [with land rovers]. Thanks. Looks like there are some well priced V70s near me, so I think you're onto a winner!

Octavia's and Superb's also have big boots.

Not a bad looking car, either.
