They could train and employ more specialist nurses as they are cheaper. Also as most nurses are older when they start their training they have better people skills.

Before the Tories closed and drastically limited the hours in the remaining ones, all the local walk in centres were run by nurses. Then if you turned up and were a concern, they would fast track you to a doctor either in the A&E next door or by calling an ambulance.

What you are complaining about is lack of social care.

Once you have had an op and otherwise healthily regardless of age it's up to your family, neighbours and friends to look after you. If they can't do it then it's left to the local council to arrange carers for you.

Now some of the people I've volunteered with have explained how sh*t this is. The carers are difficult to arrange and only have a few minutes The only carers who have treated them decently, regardless of the carers age, have all immigrant workers.

Leaving your dad in hospital to bed block is the wrong answer unless you want him to catch an infection and die quicker.

And of course carers have to pay for parking in hospitals due to a filibustering Tory MP...

How much did he pay for his cataract surgery? Could he have afforded it at all under a system of private medicine?

More generally, why do you allow yourself to be duped by politicians like this? They starve the NHS of resources precisely so they can get support for privatising it. Do you think they want to privatise it because that'll be better for you, or your father, or any patient? Of course not.

You, and your father, and everybody else, are to them just things from which money can be made; and if there is no money to be made from someone, let them rot. And you fall for it, like sheep hurling themselves into the slaughterhouse.

Oh yes tight arse bugger is loaded but refused to pay. Waited a year on the nhs because he didnt want to waste his money. Wouldnt have made a dent.

I offered to pay but he said he'd refuse to take private treatment.

How small? The issues I could see with this are

1)People wouldn't go to get something checked out or chat to their GP about a worry. While this puts more of a strain on GPs, it's great they are your first port of call for anything from wanting to quit smoking to diet advice to "what's this lump?"

2)To poorer people, even a small fee might seem substantial, or a barrier to prevent them going. Although perhaps some people are exempt in France?

On the other hand, this is the model we (mostly, it does get pricey for major work) have for dentistry. Although I never really understood why dentistry is different, making an annual check-up free seems sensible to me.

Make it a fiver or something. Would weed out the timewasters.

Well after much arguing and threatening of nhs staff by me they've finally agreed with me that something needs to be done.

So hes back to visit hospital today and it turns out they ****ed up the op. I thought it was an easy op? NHS for you. Apparently, left a bit behind. It would have been days before they would have even been arsed.

So not only did they kick him out as soon as they could, no-one checked anything before he left, and they screwed it up anyway!

I'm hoping he will agree now that a few £K that he wouldnt miss would have been well spent going private for this.

You only have to prove the figures wrong if you want to reject the case that the NHS is exceptionally cost-effective. I assume you can't, because you resort to throwing shade on an organisation as if that was somehow an argument.

I've never subscribed to the theory that they're all out to get us and make money out of us, no matter the cost or morals. It might be true for some of them but not all, surely?
