How would you pronounce "Frige"? You'd probably try to say it like "Freeg".
It's probably a case of people writing it down based on how it sounds and that spelling becoming the norm.Will work inside IR35. Or for food.Comment

Nope, "fridge" was never a brand name. There was a brand called "Frigidaire", and "fridge" is believed to be an abbreviation thereof, but it's no more a brand name than "hoo" would be.Originally posted by WTFH View Post
An alternative spelling I've seen in books published around the 1920s and 1930s is "frig", but that seems to have been quite short-lived, for obvious reasons
