GF's cat has a blade of grass stuck back of the throat, local vet couldn't get it out under anaesthetic so cat has had to go to a specialists. First vet charged £480, and £300 of that was for anaesthetic does it really cost that much in material / labour / or they just ham it up for insurance....? Specialist has just told me at a minimum it will £1000 for what they need to do, the pet insurance covers upto £1k.

Vet bill does it really cost them that much ?
-
A woman brought a very limp parrot into a veterinary hospital. As she lay her pet on the table, the vet pulled out his stethoscope and listened to the bird's chest. After a moment or two, the Vet shook his head sadly and said, "I'm so sorry, Polly has passed away."
The distressed owner wailed, "Are you sure? I mean, you haven't done any testing on him or anything. He might just be in a coma or something."
The vet rolled his eyes, shrugged, turned and left the room returning a few moments later with beautiful black Labrador. As the bird's owner looked on in amazement, the dog stood on his hind legs, put his front paws on the examination table and sniffed the dead parrot from top to bottom. He then looked at the vet with sad eyes and shook his head.
The vet led the dog out but returned a few moments later with a cat. The cat jumped up and also sniffed delicately at the ex-bird. The cat sat back, shook its head, meowed and ran out of the room. The vet looked at the woman and said, "I'm sorry; but like I said, your parrot is most definitely, 100% certifiably ...dead."
He then turned to his computer terminal, hit a few keys and produced a bill which he handed to the woman. The parrot's owner, still in shock, took the bill. "$150!" she cried. "$150 just to tell me my bird is dead?!"
The vet shrugged. "If you'd taken my word for it, the bill would only have been $20, but with the Lab Report and the Cat Scan, what did you expect?"Originally posted by Stevie Wonder BoyI can't see any way to do it can you please advise?
I want my account deleted and all of my information removed, I want to invoke my right to be forgotten. -

You are neither helping the cat or the gene pool by allowing this kind of behavior to go on...If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur. - Red AdairComment

It's not putting the cat to sleep you're paying for: it's the knowledge of how to do so in such a way that it wakes up againComment

Picasso was accosted by a fan while out on his travels. "Could you please draw me a quick sketch?" she asked.
He sat for 15 minutes and knocked out a quick sketch, then handed it to her.
"15,000 Francs please" he asked?
"What, but it only took 15 minutes!" the woman exclaimed.
"60 years, and 15 minutes" Picasso replied.Knock first as I might be balancing my chakras.Comment

Am I the only one chuckling here at the idea of a contractor complaining that paying for a professional to do a job is paying too much?

Next time, try anesthetising the cat yourself, then see how your wife reacts (I assume the cat is hers, not yours)…Maybe we ain’t that young anymoreComment

Do it yourself - it will cost nothing.
Of course you will end up with your eyes scratched out. But surely that is worth a grand?Comment

I'm sure I read somewhere that Vets have one of the highest suicide rates of any profession. Could be a guilty conscience!Comment
