£3500 for a cat-vet is just stupid, it's just a cat (and I like cats).

Did you not even try to challenge the bill?

It would have been much cheaper to have it put down and buy one that doesn't get stuff stuck in its throat.

Vets royally take the piss though. They cash in on the fact that people generally love their pets and will pay accordingly. On that basis our dog and his vet will be in for a shock once the first significant bill arrives.
Rule Number 1 - Assuming that you have a valid contract in place always try to get your poo onto your timesheet, provided that the timesheet is valid for your current contract and covers the period of time that you are billing for.

        I preferred version 1!

I will agree that vets take the piss sometimes. We just left one vet when we got charged for something that we were told was included in the price one too many times.... We complained but they didn't even bother to respond - I guess they've got enough mugs who pay without asking about the bill.

We had a cat a few years ago. Vet diagnosed him as heart problems and wouldn't last 6 months max. Kids crying etc. Without tablets wouldnt last a month. So £90 a month for tablets no choice.

For the next 10 years! Nice little margin on those tablets for all those years for the vet. I did once try to get vet to do a prescription and I'd get them online (much cheaper) but they wanted a huge "prescribing fee" then. And I could hardly tell the kids sorry I think the vet is taking the piss, I aint buying anymore tablets just in case the old boy did keel over!

Anyway, cat did go at the ripe old age of 18 in the end. Probably sod all to do with his heart. I must admit I do think there was possibly bugger all wrong with his heart all along!

I left it to gf to sort, yes she did question it and told them her insurance only covered £1k of it, apparently the piece of equipment that was needed to remove it only a handful of vets have, we are London and the vet we were referred to who had the equipment was a 65 mile drive away and they were the closet, this special piece of equipment must of driven up the cost. We had already incurred £600 in fees with the first vet who couldn't remove it usually that vet was able to the other times.

Moral of the story is to make sure you get pet insurance with a decent level of vet cover, £1k cover is what most policies for cats give as standard but you really need the more expensive cover £3.5k - £5k cover. I actually told my gf last time it happened to increase the cover / get new policy and she didn't bother to do it.

Does make my sick as at the moment the money could of been used for other things that we need, gf doesn't seem phased but I'm rather annoyed, can't show it / stress her though being 5 months pregnant, hence contractoruk has been my release lol.

Other way to look at it is may be there is a market for reasonable priced vets, setup a chain of them with good advertising and you could probably be on to a winner.

people should stop anthropomorphising animals and just accept the fact that they can die in stead of paying the most ridiculous vet bills, worth more than most people receive on health care per year

£600 just to say he couldn't do it? Bring it around to me next time, I'll only charge £500 to say I can't do it, will save you a bit of dosh.

That's what they charged to have a go at removing it so include anesthetic £300 ish and £250 to try and remove and £50 for drugs after.

Yeah agreed, probably should of had the cat put to sleep tbh, this will be the last time we get her treated though and if it does happen she will be put to sleep.
