What's you hit rate?

Complete tulipe this "I've got all the gigs I ever went for interview for". Complete and utter tulipe.

I reckon my hit rate is about 25% at best. I've been for interviews where I know it was never going to happen.

Had one where the realed off 40 questions on 4 different subjects (2 of which I knew nothing about and didn't have on my CV). I still had 25/40! but they gave to the highest scorer.

And I've had Bob interviews where they've asked the most stupid obscure questions known to man. Then you see it back on jobserve time and time again as the Bobs try to find someone whos 'perfect'.

When I first started I had some particular niche skills and always got the gig. I rarely worked in IT, always in the business where they wanted someone with BI/Reporting/MIS skills because IT couldn't deliver and understand the requirements. I am the bain of IT morons, was then, still am now.

40 Interviews, 39 gigs over 20 years.

Used to be undefeated, but came 'a second' about 6 years ago for a grand a day gig, when I was told I didn't have enough 'executive' experience.

Got it now though, in spades!

My hit rate is lot better than for permie jobs, but then you don't get asked so many stupid questions and want to punch the interviewer

Last permie interview they phoned me to say "They were very happy with your technical ability, however you failed the psychometric tests so we won't be proceeding.." It was some online thing from a self-proclaimed subject matter expert in America apparently; it deduced I'd be tulip at something even though I answered everything non-controvertially..

Had 3 more contract interviews since then and got them all straight away, usually the holy grail "finish on Friday, start on Monday" too.

In all fairness though, I've had a pretty linear career path and I don't bulltulip so if they're taking the time to talk to me I'm probably the right person.

I think I've been offered all but one roles I've interviewed for. Even the one I fell over during, so I consider that a win.

After interviewing 9 contractors recently I can imagine many people on here who are interested enough to post with their peers will have a pretty high hit rate. There must a whole raft of people out there that have endless interviews for the two or three contracts on their CV and the only way they can get end to end gigs is by bailing to a new client.

All but 2 over 15 years for me .

The 2 refusals, I have had, I'm not even sure whether the role went ahead.
On one occasion, at least, I know that to be true.

I have. One exception was where the role I was interviewing for didn't match the spec so in the interview we agreed it was in neither of out interests to continue so we left it.

So it's not crap.

I dont really keep track of what I got and what I didnt. All I know is that since Feb 2009 I've been on the bench < 4 months
I DO know that if its a technical interview, I usually get the contract
