Yes, but why should someone else's home be your retirement?
It's an alternative, but should it be - or at least such a popular one? Is it sustainable?

No one is stopping you from cash buying as an investment and rent out to supplement your retirement income. Can't compare BTL to pension, last time i checked there weren't such things as 80% leveraged pension pots.

Enlighten me. Why is being young an exclusion to getting a job.

Clean cut, no tattooes, well educated, well spoken, willing is no barrier to getting a job at any age.

should supplying food or energy pay for rich shareholders profit?

The Golden Arches & France's biggest dam owners shut.

Try earning average wage and buying an average priced house. Getting together the deposit despite university loans.

I have told my kids to leave the UK.

Was someone from the council there when you had your parental visit?

Nobody gives you nothing in this life (well apart from immigrants and dole scum)
I have a (modest) house, but many of my friends and family rent.

Those companies were built on people's hard work and money. Borrowing 10X your wealth so you can get much poorer people to pay off your debt is not quite the same. Hence my suggestion BTL investors should have to stump up the bulk of the cash.
