They are giving them a loan of a bunch of decrepit 1960s bombers which I suppose are quite advanced to you considering your mind is wandering about somewhere in the 1950s.Originally posted by DimPrawn View PostThere's a rumour going round that Russia is going to give Argentina lots of very long range and advanced weapons in exchange for food and other commodities as it feels the EU sanctions bite.
You heard it here first.

Other than that I notice Fran and Anna are boring every fecker on CUK again about SNP membership and how we are all going to be living in Brigadoon soon.Comment

I think you'll find that rights can be equated to principles, formalising them is only the process of writing them down and everyone agreeing the finer points.Originally posted by pjclarke View PostOf course rights are negotiable, it happens all the time. The 'right' to self-determination was formalised in the Atlantic Charter of 1941, before that it only existed as a principle, with no standing in law.
Again, not relevant. The islands are now British and the population is British and want to stay British. Constantly harping back to how this came about is just a diversion.Britain violated the rights of the Argentinian settlers when she kicked them off by force just six generations ago. Our 'rights' to the rock date back to that act of aggression.
So basically, you want to cave in to some wannabe stateswoman who is trying to divert the attention away from her failing primacy with a dubious claim to British territory rather than respecting the wishes and rights of your fellow Britons (assuming of course that you are British). However it is moot because there are sufficient people here who still think we should maintain some kind of Empire, to make a negotiated handover of the islands a political impossibility, however I do think that expending so much taxpayers' money and human life on the 'rights' of a community the size of Framlington, a third of the way around the world is just
We could give them half a million each, and relocate them to a reasonable simulcrum of the Falklands in the Inner Hebrides, and it would cost less, and nobody has to die.Comment

Nobody said anything specific about which foreign rule.Originally posted by NotAllThere View PostWhen that foreign ruler was a South American dictator with a cavalier approach to human rights, I think it's a reasonable opinion.
When you act like one. Right now you're just being xenophobic (it's OK, lots of people confuse the two).Originally posted by alluvial View PostWhen are you going to call me a racist?

That is a rather narrow view though. You have left out the very real possibility of sizeable quantitites of Oil/Gas being located in the surrounding waters and all the associated revenue that might generate for the Treasury. On top of that you could have endless wind turbines strewn across the place. That ought to give you a stiffy if nothing else.Originally posted by pjclarke View PostI do think that expending so much taxpayers' money and human life on the 'rights' of a community the size of Framlington, a third of the way around the world is just :freaky :
Besides, now that we have decent defensive capabilities on the islands, most of the outlay has already been spent. It would be an entirely different proposition for the Argies to capture the islands now than it was back in the early eighties when the defensive capabilities amounted to little more than a chapter of the Peggy Spencer formation Dance Team.“The period of the disintegration of the European Union has begun. And the first vessel to have departed is Britain”Comment
