I think you'll find that rights can be equated to principles, formalising them is only the process of writing them down and everyone agreeing the finer points.

The islands are now British and the population is British and want to stay British. Constantly harping back to how this came about is just a diversion.

I must be being dense but I am not following. A right is a principle, the fact that the people currently occupying the islands (well, 80% of them) are descended from British aggressors grants them the rights to be defended (at a ratio of 1 soldier for each two British islanders, paid for by me) by the rest of us . The rights of the displaced Argentinians were presumably just a 'diversion'.

So 'principles' have an expiry date. Glad we cleared that up.

Self-determination is fine but all rights have to be balanced against the right of others, such as the right of the the rest of the country not to have our taxes uselessly wasted and the rights of our servicemen not to be killed over a territory a third of the war around the world.

Join the Navy and you could end up making the ultimate sacrifice so that 12 sheep farmers may carry on sheep farming on a remote rock.

Whereas the left would spend our taxes much more wisely. The reason the lefties do not like the Falklanders is because they represent Tory values. The army is also the figurehead of our colonial past and so I am not convinced that you give a sh*t about them either. As far as the left are concerned they will go to any length to undermine and destroy British/English heritage and culture. Such is the extent of their self loathing envy.

You seem awfully worried about the violations of the rights of previous generations. Perhaps you should take up the cudgels for all displaced groups from history. The past, although of importance and should be used to form our behaviours in the present distracts from the facts of today. We now recognise that the forced displacement of groups from their homes or ancestral lands is wrong, which is why the forced displacement (which is what you have suggested) of the Falkland Islanders is wrong now.

But I think that you are but a brick wall upon which I batter my head.
