The reason for the declining ice is due to ocean cycles. What you see is the ice increasing in the 1970's and then decreasing until fairly recently. Now on the increase.

By 2030 the ice will be back to where it was and the climate scientists will have an awful lot of egg on their faces.

In fact Al Gore predicted that the Arctic ice would be gone by 2013. Just after he predicted that the ice started increasing again as you see on the chart

A bit like the classic there will be no more snow prediction, does anyone remember that.

I am not so much worried about the snow or ice, it's the fact that entire nations will be wiped off the face of the earth by rising seas.

And will happen as soon as the year 2000

I remember it being a tabloid headline.

I remember that snow in the north used to be virtually guaranteed in the winter (was just re-reading the Herriot books and struck by how vicious the winters are portrayed in Yorkshire.

I remember that snowfall isn't a metric of how warm/cold it is.

... yeah and every Christmas was white

during the 20th century there were only seven official white Christmases in the United Kingdom

My Dad used crampons to get to the local shops in 2010.

After 2020 when the AMO is in it's cold phase I think you'll find there will be more snow. than in the last few years.

            Not true.

How could we forget? For years you rolled it out every few weeks, it was your chief argument, a cherry-picked mangled quote from a piss-poor piece of mainstream science journalism that was a million miles from what the science was saying, as you later conceded.
My subconscious is annoying. It's got a mind of its own.

But ok. Take the 'reason to be cheerful' about polar bears from Crockford's document that you find the most compelling, and explain in a sentence why you find it so.

C'Mon, I thought you were all about the science.?

You didn't actually read it did you?

I didn't say that. Even in a silly argument you have to put words in peoples' mouths so you can refute them?
Even were snowfall a way to measure temperature, using the number of times snow fell in a single place on a specific day would be totally unscientific.

Out of interest does anyone know if we actually have "inches of snow" records from around the country over the decades, like we do for rainfall?

He wasn't the only journalist reporting that.

Here is a German journalist quoting a German scientist.

                  http://http://www.spiegel.de/wissenschaft/mensch/winter-ade-nie-wieder-schnee-a-71456.html

This was what all scientists were saying.

More than one source, more than one jounalist, and more than one scientist. Therefore not "cherry picked".

                  You're making stuff up again...

There's only one fabricator around here ... that quote translates as 'the heavy frosts and snow of 20 years ago no longer occur in our region'. Which is no more than an acknowledgement of the trend of warmer winters in Europe, and does not equate to no snow. Once again the headline has been added by the author. Why on Earth are you getting science from tabloid headlines?

                    Remember this?

We can settle this really easily, just find a primary source - a journal article, something written firsthand by a climate scientist, an IPCC projection, the Met Office or similar that predicted a snow free UK by now.

                    Good luck with that.
From February 2012. Need a little more time?

                      Check out Al Gore....

Al Gore in his own words

I'm sure you probably agree with him.

                      Enjoy
