1. do we let it continue at its current historic high? - NO!
If we do then what effects will it have on services and social cohesion? - Very negative
2. Should we have a control over who we let in? - YES
If we don't how do we deal with the less desirable ones? - - We wrap them in cuddly wool and hope they don't hurt us, that seems to be the current strategy. We are allowing anyone in there are many very damaged individuals coming here to escape conflict or their past whilst they are likely to be a minority its a bigger percentage than the general population.
3. How do we integrate recent migrants - difficult but I suggest that we take a fairly hard line and provide a framework of 'UK values' that people who want to live in the UK obey.
4 how do we supply services to meet the demand? We need to make sure enough people pay enough tax to pay for it and we implement it effectively.
5. do the sums add up will the migrants pay for themselves completely including in work benefits and displacement? Ignoring those migrants that would have got in anyway via a visa. I don't believe if you exclude the migrants with significant existing wealth or who would have got in via a visa that the remaining people depending on freedom of movement or illegal migration earn enough to pay for themselves.
6. do we have any clue how many migrants there are? - not a scooby.

So I'm guessing you know all the locals do you?In Scooter we trustComment

NHS is the best health care system in the world
It certainly wouldn't function without a large number of immigrants.

Cutting immigration would make the health system worse not better.I'm alright JackComment

Stop and ask yourself what would have happened if we hadn't had ANY immigration. Would the NHS have a large percentage of immigrants working for it in the first place? Would we need so many staff as there would be proportionally fewer patients?
They stole nurses from other and frequently poorer countries because they were cheaper than training our own, they are doing the same with Doctors.
NHS hires record number of Spanish and Portuguese nurses while refusing Britons because of slashed training budgets | Daily Mail Online
BBC News - Southampton MP says not enough English nurses are being trained
So some could say immigration has ruined the NHS because without immigration the costs of language barriers would disappear and some infectious diseases that are making a comeback would be almost non existent.
No one is suggesting we send all the immigrants home, so controlling immigration would just force us to train our own NHS staff not cause the death of the NHS, if we cut immigration will all the immigrant and immigrant children instantly give up their jobs in the NHS?.
Its taken 10-50 years to make the NHS dependent on immigration it will take a similar amount of time to change it back but we have a grace period until current workers retire so lets start training UK nationals right away.
And of course we aren't proposing stopping immigration just controlling it.Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much.Comment
