I did some work on these while I was at Sky, they're actually OK it depends on what you're after in terms of content to be fair. Though it is more or less like a Roku box which Sky also owns.

We have one in the kids room with the Entertainment pack, £5 a month isn't bad just depends what you want out of it

Depends on what you really want it to do

I've never used ours for any Sky content (but I know it exists), and it's probably worthwhile if you only occasionally want some sport. Ours is used as a streaming media player which picks up from the Plex media server installed on my NAS - in that respect, it's a great box at £10.

I use the Now app on our PS3 which is basically our main TV box as we mainly watch Netflix & Amazon Video.

Would having the box be to any advantage in this use-case... or a bit pointless?

Bit pointless unless you specifically want to watch Sky content.

They are good if you haven't got anything else to watch catch up TV on/Youtube/random content that isn't linked to any other major TV/Film player - so for additional TVs in the house they are a bargain.

However now you have to sign up for films, entertainment or sports pack before they allow it to be activated. (There are free/discount vouchers online for 30 days.) They have closed a lot of the software holes that were in the box.

Yes, they're pretty good. First one Sky sent to us was faulty but the second one has been good since we've had it. We watch the movies on it which works out a lot cheaper than the Sky Movies package.

Sky don't own Roku, they are just an investor in it...
