The voting eligibility was frankly bizarre; i.e. excluding the Scot that lives in Newcastle for work, but letting the student from Kent studying at St Andrews to vote.

Almost 300,000 - I'm not sure what the breakdown of <16 years old and in full time employment vs temporary employment/education is though; probably insignificant and accounted for a large part of the did not vote count.

If a foreigner is looking to make their long term future a life in Scotland, then they should have got a vote because it affects them. On the other hand, all the Scots who love Scotland so much they're making their long term future a more prosperous life in England (or Germany) have no right to expect to vote.
