I read that 5% of people spoilt their ballot papers. HOW?!?!

I’m glad common sense prevailed. The referendum was a farce from start to finish – Westminster shouldn’t have resorted to changing the rules in the weeks leading up the ballot, Salmond should have actually answered the questions that mattered and the referendum should have been open to all of the UK.

The voting eligibility was frankly bizarre; i.e. excluding the Scot that lives in Newcastle for work, but letting the student from Kent studying at St Andrews to vote.

Both sides tried their best to lose; the incompetence was astounding.

That's perfectly sensible. What would have been bizarre would be to try to have eligibility based on centuries old ideas of ethnicity, or base it on where somebody happened to be born.

They may be stunned by the number, but not by the result. Junkies don't vote to turn off the supply.

I agree; that's why it should have been open to all residents of the UK, as per my sentence above the one you quoted.

Absolutely, it is contractorUK after all.
