I'd always thought there was a split in the OT which is where Islam came from (legitimate vs illegitimate children or something like that). I wonder what, if any, religion that spawned since clearly it wasn't Islam!

The Koran is full of stories mentioned in the Bible - both old and new testament. What you're probably thinking of is the story of Ishmael and Isaac. The OT story has it that Isaac inherited from Abraham; the Koran that Ishmael inherited. This certainly would have appealed to the Arabs, since, traditionally, they are descended from Ishmael (the Jews from Isaac). The fact that the OT account is hundreds of years older than the Koran is handled by Islam by saying that the Bible was corrupted by the Jews and Christians.

What about an old British soldier who was a POW held by the Japanese. Would you expect him to be receptive to being looked after by a Japanese carer?

the first is a reasonable exception and is a case by case basis. Pretty rare now though I would bet.

the second if the carer can't behave then they shouldn't be employed, if the customer can't behave then it needs managing.
