So, maybe if Newcastle or Cumbria votes against the Torys at the next election, they'll be made to join Scotland as part of the negotiations.

If your auntie had balls, she'd be your uncle.

    It's hardly an interesting question.
So you are happy to escape rule from distant Westminster but are unhappy to grant the same to those who regard Edinburgh as equally distant.

PS my grand parents come from the Shetlands and still know people there so know first hand their opinion of mainlanders...

It's interesting because it's fun, but I agree it's not a serious question.

But I'd still like to hear what you and Batcher think the % chance is that the Panama solution may be incompatible with EU membership.

For a start, it would quell some market fears.
Short-term, it would make sense to have a currency union in terms of eliminating the uncertainty. Long-term, it's unclear that this would benefit either Scotland or rUK. For Scotland, you would be tied to central bank policy for rUK, and we all know how that's gone in recent years with the Eurozone. Admittedly, Scotland and rUK are much closer than, say, Spain and Germany, but there is a risk that Scotland will diverge over time given the differences in revenue sources and social preferences. Obviously, whatever voice Scotland may have on rUK central bank policy, it will be a minority voice. For rUK, the benefits are unclear for many of the same reasons, but the critical difference is that rUK is a much bigger economy and will act primarily in its own self-interest long-term.

Interesting how the scenario is panning out. So Scotland gain independence UKIP gets voted in, this causes Wales gets to the hump and asks for independence too and then England leaves the EU. The North of England then gets the hump and forms the greater Republic of Yorkshire and Northumbria and also leaves the UK.

            Hey Presto.....

I don't know, is my opinion, but as far as I knew, we were being kicked out of the EU immediately, again, it's here in my letter from Mr Cameron.

In fact, in the same leaflet, I am told that Scotland cannot keep the £ and will be forced to use the Euro, while at the same time, we're being kicked out of the EU.

No wonder we cower in fear from Westminster.
