Kleptomania and OCD are very real in this way, and they don't even involve the sexual urge, which is one of the strongest drives there is. Likewise some people have legitimate anger problems that are not resolvable with "just use some willpower".

        ...

Well, the defence is going through mitigation right now, and although they have got to excuse #12 and the mitigation is concluded.

Not once did he admit guilt, regret or apologise.

Well, perhaps instead of denying it, he should have admitted the offences, had a psychiatric evaluation and pleaded mitigation to the court. He would probably be in a better position now and his victims wouldn't have been forced through cross-examination to the same degree.

But despite that, justice should be done and IMO that means prison - presumably a unit for elderly offenders.
I'm kind of the same - I don't really feel sorry for him and I find the crimes abhorrent, but I'm very much struggling to believe it. That's not to say I don't believe that the jury made the right decision or anything, I just really struggle to see him as a rapist rather than a gentle man.

That is rather bad (assuming he is actually guilty). The best thing to do would be to collapse in tears at who/what you are.

edit: SB you posted while I was. I think I agree with that. In principle I still hold you can be a pedophile and a "nice person", even if Rolf isn't that person. Even a pedophile who "slips", if we agree that pedophile is a legitimate orientation/condition rather than only ever done for power/abuse.

So you think he may not be guilty?

I haven't followed the case enough to form an opinion. I don't even know what specifically he is supposed to have done under the term of "abuse", or what counts as abuse in the laws being used to try him.
