What I would normally do. In this circumstance, agent wants me to give notice at current client knowing that once I do this they again have me by the nuts.

But contract ends (unless I accept extension) anyway next Friday so I don't really have to give notice legally. So bit better but I would, out of courtesy, like to tell client as soon as I can (i.e. a week would be fair I think).

I think some of you guys are being a bit harsh on PC in my opinion.
The agent is trying it on big time, using all of the tricks in the book to get him to commit before he knows what he's committing to, surely all of us are on his side for standing his ground.

He knows the pimp is lying as he has a contact at the clients site, oh and as for handing in notice on the current gig when it finishes in a week anyway, tell him to do one!

Not being funny but don't get on to me saying its all going to fall through because I'm delaying things and then piss about.

Even doing some work is preferable to spending half my day arguing with agents about this crap. In fact, I'd rather spend my time reading NLUKs posts than this. (OK bit far that one!)
That wasn't what I meant - you are taking the absolutely correct approach. I'm just saying, chill, they will either get it sorted or they won't. Until they do, you have a potential extension at current place and the opportunity to take another contract if it arises.

If you are really that bothered, call the client and tell them they are messing you about. If the client really wants you, they will fix the agent.

Cheers Kal. That's just it if I hand notice in then the agency know they've got me by the nuts. They ain't gonna change a thing after this because they know I've got this or bugger all. They could put in the contract that I've got to paint my arse blue every day and they know I might be desperate enough!

Lucky I got my mate though. Spoke to him last night and he's going to have a quiet word with his boss to tell him that its not me being awkward its the agency.

Got a load of docs through now from agency. Hmmm. Some weird stuff.

I think you're right. As far as they're concerned they seem to think that they own you and you're their employee or something.

Same old clause - got to get agreement from employment business to take any time off. Yeh yeh - dont think so. If client is happy thats it - agency can sod off if they think I'm asking them for permission.

We are being harsh on PC because all he ever does his splurge his life story on here and appears unable to make a basic decision or handle a simple process without talking about it endlessly. Always everyone elses fault or ambiguity is 'weird'. Contracting is about dealing with this and getting gigs, the work in between is incidental. Based on that PC is a bloody useless contractor. People that have been around long enough are just bored of it.
