Quite - why on Earth do people get upset about this??

Don't take it personally - just move on.

I can only speak for myself but every job specific email addressed to me personally or my co's email address is replied to. I respond that Im in a contract until xyz so please contact me nearer that time to determine my availability or phone up to discuss (if the flipping agent can be arsed to take my call ).

If I get a 'mailshot' that is addressed to 'undisclosed recipients' or the senders 'contact list' then no, I dont generally reply. I consider these to be just spam because the sender cannot be arsed to address it to me specifically.

Listen Andy, if a business with whom you interact sends a specific letter or mail to you, do you not bother responding!?
I couldn't give two fornicators! Yes, really!

You just have to accept the fact that you won't get a reply if unsuccessful, it's fact of life.

Last time you shopped around for the cheapest crate of lager or whatever at Asda, Tesco, Morrisons, etc... did you got back to each of the shops where you didn't buy from and give feedback as to why you didn't buy from their shop?

Yes I realise it meant I didn't get the role but common courtesy would dictate some level of feedback after they have put you in front of their client.

            IMHO...
Yeh. That annoys me too. Ignore my CV fair enough but surely if you go for interview its not too much to ask for a 30 sec phonecall?

Because there is no money in it for them, why waste time speaking to a contractor you're not going to placee

Because next time you may be successful or the role is advertised by more than one agency and you may decide not to apply through the agent who couldnt be bothered getting back to you?

I reply to all emails where the recruiter has addressed me personally and has, you know, actually read my CV/linkedin profile.

Sometimes I reply to the stupid ones as well, eg "this permie role paying £18k, I assume that's per month?"

Its stupid practise imo. If this ever happened to me, that would be the agency blacklisted and my phone set to reject their calls.

As others have said, maybe a contractor wasnt right for this role but the one tomorrow could be a perfect fit. But sadly the contractor wont even speak to you now. Shame that.

If you think Im wrong, try this. When an agent does contact you about a role and confirms you as a suitable candidate, keep a watch of jobswerve. In a couple of days time, you see the job they contacted you about being advertised for the first time! QED.

They dont need to respond to these applications as they'd just engage in discussions with irate contractors.
Spot on as in some cases I have already accepted the contract and waiting for the paper work
