Yes I realise it meant I didn't get the role but common courtesy would dictate some level of feedback after they have put you in front of their client.

    IMHO...
I agree with that. Putting a CV forward to the client is one thing - lots of them go into a black hole and that's fair enough.

But if a candidate takes the time to have an interview with the client then there should be at least some common courtesy follow up even if it is just a generic brush off.

Hello to all, my first post here.

On Topic - What annoys me most is, they would call, have a chat with you, tell you "Ok, I am going to send you the job specs and see what you think of it". You put the phone down hoping to have a look at the specs and they never arrive. Just tell me that you don't think I am suitable for the role!!!

      Done with my rant..

        Ah bless!

You don't actually think that they have a job for you, do you?

        No, no, no...
What they wanted (and probably got)
        • What's the market like for widget coders? ("How long have you been looking?")
        • What the market rate for junior widget coders, daft enough to answer these questions? ("What's your current rate?')
        • How desperate are widget coders? ("What rate will you accept?")
        • Who is hiring widget coders? ("Where are you at the moment?")
        • Can I get a foot in the door and dump this loser?("Who is your hiring manager?")

Still, at least one party got what they wanted so it's not all bad news.

Why? They are sales organisations, targetted at maximum income and driven by bean counting time and motioners. You don't do work you don't get paid for, do you?

I'm always hopeful that youngsters don't care about grammar on public/anonymous forums, they just want to get messages out there quickly.

I'm sure that they recognize the need for more formal (and more clearly expressed) written communication in business, and are actually acquainted with punctuation and capital letters.

Agents generally don't do common courtesy unfortunately. A frustration and downside of the contracting lifecycle.

On a more serious note, I don't understand how some of these agents manage to sleep peacefully at night after fobbing off so many people.

Funny world, the fate of "good people" lies in the hands of some "crooks"

Out of interest, does every contractor here reply to every e-mail an agent sends them about a role?

I am not a contractor yet, but I call them up on the number they provide at the bottom of the email and speak to them about the role. I prefer hearing their voice when they lie...
