There has been 1 job advertised for my skillset this year... and that was in Holland!

Annually there are only ever 5 or 6 relevant roles advertised in my skillset, often in far flung places.

I should really look into changing my skillbase.

If you are guessing, then these imaginary number might be getting balanced out by an indeterminate number of bob companies picking up roles, and permies who have been made redundant coming onto the market as well.

Also, the bob companies may be getting pushed out as some places become wiser to "bob IT".

And I suppose some redundant permies might rush straight into the first permie job they can find...

        and... and....

        feck, I've no idea.

          .Net

I was looking in Oxfordshire/Berkshire areas since 1st Jan, and things were veeeeeeeeeeeery slow.

Out of ~30 matches on jobserve per week only 1/3 of them were relevant (ASP.Net and C#).

Quite active on the phone front, supposedly put forward to a number of roles - but since the current contract ends this Friday people were quite reluctant to talk to me in the last few weeks.

I'd say there's about 2-3 contracts in the area weekly, but you'd need to be THE guy to get them.

Not great, but there are possibilities - just don't expect a very quick turnaround.

I've never had a problem getting a .NET contract, I must be very good.

I thought because you are immediately avail from this Friday you are much more likely to get new contract then the ones with notice period?

How much commercial experience you have in ASP.NET/C# (if you don't mind telling)?

It's only immediately this week, and I started looking at 1st Feb - hence many dead ends (we want someone to start next week etc.)

5+ years .Net experience, 12 years total web dev experience, not willing to go to London

Anyway, a nice 6-monther starts on Monday

Just spent 2 weeks looking for a contract and although plenty of interviews and phone calls, just the one offer. There seems to be more competition in terms of agencys and jobs.

My advice would be to hold on to your support role until the summer when the budgets are back in.
