What the hell is up with the market (or is it just me)
Made me wonder though if this is an indication of a shift in the market where clients are now taking the pi55 as well as agents.
It's been like this over 6 months. Head count freezes, agents desperate for leads, interviewers who don't have more than 1 braincell to rub together. Makes you wonder why you're wasting your life...

LOL, made me smile.
I went to an interview recently, they were absolutely useless, even I wouldn't have employed them. I had to provide them with the job spec for the role they were interviewing me for, as they didn't have sight of it. Asking me stoopid questions like, how would you handle the unions? Ermm, not sure that's within a contractor's remit, but if there were issues on this front then I would definitely flag this up to the Programme Mgr.
They had the last laugh as I didn't get the role, but I had the satisfaction in knowing I would never have to meet such a useless pair of feckwits ever again...until next time of course.
The Market is starting to really Pee me off. Compared to same time last year:
- Less roles
- Lower rates
- nothing local
Basically DOOMED
I am in a contract but I have been applying since December. December was good, first 2 weeks of Jan poor but not too bad, every week since then it has been getting progressively worse. Tough times.
Not so long ago you were cock a hoop and turning down roles paying 'only' £450 a day, claiming you could easily get £500 a day. So you based all that on a couple of weeks where you received a few calls to declare the market 'bouyant'?

LOL! Couldnt have put it better myself. Guess it just proves how much BS some people post on these boards.
Funny how you conveniently ignored my response.... I also never said it was easy to get £500/day up north or that £450/day was little so don't be putting words into mouths...

No, you just said you could get 50% more than you were on at the moment.

I'm a little surprised with the time spent on cover letters as every agent I've queried on this says they just do a keyword search on CVs, then filter from there based on experience, location, availability etc. - anything else tends to be filed in the virtual recycling bin. Plus I can't imagine precious little pimps and their workloads adding more work than they need to
I definitely agree with the assertion of tailoring your CV as no way could you highlight every sinew of experience, especially in the circus that is project environments, as you would bore the reader to death (instead of just half).

No lying though
Yep, I never do a covering letter.
At most I have a couple of extra lines in my email saying I have 20 years Widget Wrangling experience blah blah etc.
It has also always been my impression the agents I deal with are mostly key word searchers.

Indeed - I don't deny that - at that moment in time I was able to get a 50% increase but the role and contract duration was not right given my current position and location.

Maybe you should read this thread to remind you of what you said at the time - nothing about it "not being right" in there

Have you read any of my other threads? That's not the role I am referring to... I actually got offered one - do a search by date to find my other threads....
