    BPSS ( Basic Check ) - Questions

Sorry about asking this hear, I've been searching around and this seems the best UK forum to ask such a question.

    Background:
I've been unemployed for a year now and it's becoming increasingly hard to find work in the IT sector with 1 year gap and little experience.

Recently I found a job in the LEP partnership, which means they should show preferential treatment to those unemployed for 6+ months which means I might actually have a shot.

The job (as far as I can tell, Job centre are known for lack of information) role is installation of computers at remote sites across the UK. From what I gather it's pretty much installing new systems, pluggins the hardware in and making sure they are operational before leaving the site.

Job description states BPSS will be needed and provided by employer. From extra research and finding job advertised elsewhere I saw the statment "Prefer current up to date SC Clearance", despite having no history of SC checks I still plan to apply.

    Issues:

I got cautioned for fraud (electronic fraud maybe, was an Ebay dispute gone terribly wrong) about 4months ago. The issue was so petty and stupid, yet still it is a criminal caution for fraud.

Will this effect the BPSS (Formally Basic Check). I understand that this does not show as a criminal conviction, but it will show on enhanced disclosure checks for working in schools etc.

    Bad Credit:

I have some pretty bad credit history, but no CCJ or Bankruptcy/DRO (New form of bankruptcy, but smaller scale) issues.

Thanks for the help guys, these are the 2 issues I have had in my life that may effect a BPSS.

PS: While I am here, anyone had dealings with http://www.hhg.uk.com/ which is the company advertising the vacancy.

You should perhaps continue to practice the Search facility, all those question shave been anserwed in the last few months...

A criminal record is not a problem provided you declare it. They're testing honesty and liability to blackmail. They'll know about it anyway, they're checking what you tell them.

There's a lot more info on the MOD's www.dva.mod.uk website by the way.
    Blog? What blog...?

Sorry, I have actually read alot of your posts on this subject.

Many from 2008 when it was called BPS/EPS but didn't locate anything about Cautions.

I was told I wouldn't have to declare the caution because it is not a criminal conviction. I basically want to know if it will show on a BPS.

I actually read a few of your posts around 2008 date malvolio. I got a lot of information from there so thanks.

My only real query is: Do I still need to declare a Caution as I was informed it is not a Criminal Conviction and would not need to state it for jobs. But obviously a SC might highlight it anyway.

IMO depending on how recent the bad credit history is, and with the caution for Fraud (and let's face it, everyone who is cautioned maintains it was only a small petty matter...) there is little chance of being granted an SC.

          Sorry for being blunt.

But the point is, the authorities will already know everytihng about him, including the caution and the check will throw it all up anyway. If he doesn't declare it he will fail. If he does, he might but most likely won't, esepcially for BC.

Never heard anyone got cautioned for Ebay transaction that went wrong!

Unless you tried to use stolen credit card details..... only then police get involved.

The forms should make it clear. Cautions and/or warnings might not need to be declared unless you have any convictions.

They won`t know everything about you. County Police authority processes may differ. For example some warnings and maybe cautions might only be stored nationally temporarily, or might not be logged at all nationally depending on the handling Police Authority. They`ll know about the convictions but any other warnings/cautions might not be so easy to find. So a warning valid in Wiltshire won`t even be known about elsewhere providing it has expired, but do the same naughty behaviour in Wiltshire again and you`re nicked without a warning.

Never lie, that is sure way of failing clearance.
