Though I'm currently in work, this recession has been nightmarish and there's no way I would judge those still caught up in the worst of it.
    Very well put.

I hope it works out for the OP if he gets the job. However I do think it can be a risky strategy despite what NOMADD said above. For my last contract my client used a vetting agency, this agency went through my CV with a fine tooth comb and contacted every single employer on my CV, where I had gaps and I have a few I had to self-certify them. This process lasted throughout the first 3 months of my contract. Whenever the vetting agency had trouble contacting a previous employer they would revert to me for contacts or other definitive proof I had worked there. If at any point if I had not complied or they had found a discrepancy they would have gone back to HR who I have no doubt would have had me out the door.

How fookin clear do you need it to be?

Don't assume that just because your standards are low that the same applies to everyone else.

I think RC was trying to make a point about the verification of CV's here, rather than seriously considering making up a brand new CV?!

Ok, that's not quite so bad then, I thought you'd added an extra 6 months on. Wouldn't do it myself though. I think your issue is more likely to be with a reference...or if someone knows someone who worked at that client, and they say you didn't work there at those dates. That's more likely to be problematic than getting security clearance.

I am so glad that I don’t have to go through all this anymore; I’d never get a job. Not because of gaps (4 weeks off – been out of work too long! What is that about FFS), but because of what I HAVE been doing.
How did this happen? Who's to blame? Well certainly there are those more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable, but again truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror.

It's easy to be quick to judge until you've been out of work for ages, I guess.
It's also easy to judge when you have lost good gigs and are on the breadline because someone that got it above you blatently lied on their cv. A point that seems to be lost on most of the 'doo gooders good luck to the OP' types here.

If you have been out of work for ages it's probably because some lying b*****d keeps getting your work. Ok if you can't beat them join them fair enough but do it quietly and certainly don't come on a public board and condone it.

I wonder how different this link would have been had most of us here knew for sure we have lost good work to liars.

IF you had the read the previous posts you would see that I don't change dates on my CV. However I have been out of work for a substantial period of time also and if it comes down to a straight choice between making a minor alteration to my CV to get interviews for a job or being able to pay my bills and feed and clothe my family properly, hmmm, I wonder which I will choose....

What you are doing is judging other people when you know nothing about their circumstances, that is what is unforgivable.

Well said. I personally don't actually agree with what the OP has done, it does stretch the truth a little more than I would ever consider. However, getting myself worked up to the level that Northernlad regularly seems to, feels a little futile.

I am on the bench, but don't blame other people for this fact. My personal choice is not to lie on my CV, but to accept that in some cases, it simply isn't good enough.

If other people lie to get a role, that is their choice and will probably backfire on them at some point. I don't condone it. If I knew for a fact that a liar had got a role over me, I doubt I would waste too much time procrastinating about it - tulip happens.
