    Security clearance...and 'massaged' dates.

So, been for an interview today, went very well, good chance of me getting the job, etc, etc, BUT, at the end they said you just need to go through security clearance (just to check your address and so on). Not sure if this proper SC clearance or just one of these security vetting companies (it's not a government client or anything like that...)

All well and good. I have no criminal record I know of, am not a terrorist, have actually worked at all the places I said I have, and so on.

BUT, my last contract finished in Dec last year. After failing to get a job (in Aug) because the client thought I had been too long out of work, I 'amended' my CV to move the end date of my last contract to July this year...

Bad, I know, but you do what you do...

Anyway - if I do manage to get the job and I have to go through the vetting malarky, what should I do? Lie also on the security form? Put the real dates on the forms? What are the chances of the interviewers a. even seeing my security forms and b. cross checking them with my cv.

No sarcy comments about cheats never prospering, please. Anyone who's been out of work as long as I have knows the things you have to do to get back in the game.

    Cheers
    Lou

SC doesn't ask you about where you worked.

The SC form is quite basic.
It asks for details on who you are, your family and where you have lived.
Nothing on employment or financial information is asked.
The process takes about three months.

What is with the sudden raft of numpties that go around lying on their CV and then come on here crying like bitches about it asking how they can get themselves out of the sh*t they got themselves in to? Seriously.

If you are gonna f about with your CV and go round lying then at least nut up and shut up when it all goes wrong. Why should we give you any advice to get you out of the stupid situation you got yourself in? How the hell should honest people know what to do. We don't get ourselves in this position.

I 'amended' my CV to move the end date of my last contract to July this year...

No you don't beacuse you are asking advice from the very same people your cheating out of a job cause of your lies and if you do it you deal it with yourself. Live by the sword and die by the sword but do it on your own. At least do a seach first and have a look at the advice given to the last idiot crying about it.

        Jesus.

Admitting to committing fraud should be enough for police to get a court order to track the OP

FFS, that's not a minor change, that's adding over 6 months of experience to your CV. Truly despicable, hope you get found out.

For the record, I moved the dates of the contract along 6 months. I did not 'add' 6 months on to the length of the contract. I fail to see how doing that has warranted so much anger. Clearly those who have responded in that way have some frustration issues. I suggest you get laid, or masterbate, pronto.

Sanctimonious bunch of nobbers on here today. The OP told a bit of a white lie on their CV by shifting employment dates and everyone jumps on them. This is NOT like claiming an imaginary degree, which would count as Obtaining a Pecuniary Advantage by Deception, a criminal offence.

                  WHS

Sadly more and more people seem to think this type of dishonesty is acceptable. Maybe lying and fraud is becoming more acceptable in society now, look at MPs for example, a quick cheque written and now all is OK.

I seem to remember someone lying on his CV on The Apprentice, getting caught, and going on to win.

Perhaps we are the fools for being honest.
Numbly tolerating the inequality as a way to achieve greater prosperity for all.

                    +100

You are right: It seems this site at times is only populated by people with a cleaner record than Jesus.

To the OP: Ignore the people on here who say it's a problem. My 20 year contracting cv has more holes (gaps) in it than Swiss Cheese, yet I've filled ALL of them in; and some of those gaps are longer than 6 months. I've never had a problem yet.

If I left all the gaps on my cv I'd never find work. I had enough bitching and whining about a 4 week (!) gap on my cv 14 years ago that I made a decision to never, ever leave any gaps again. That is now my company policy.

Ps. Just been through a very, very rigorous vetting process for an Investment Bank. I had no problems whatsoever. Without those "white lies", I'd be still on the bench.
