All I can say is look at the market place and see reality. No contract roles out there and no reason why the situation should change.

Wrong wrong wrong. It won't change if nobody does anything to make it change. There's a huge amount of effort going on right now to do exactly that. Now stop your pointless waffling and stick to whatever it is you're good at.

So its a bunch of contractors against the rest of the world then??

The average Brit did nothing to stop manufacturing from leaving UK shores for good- OK so some of the early TV's and cars out of Japan etc were not that good, but now they are the best in the world (in fact they are the ONLY ones in the world as no one else has the capability to manufactures any more).
Do you think the average Joe in the street gives a toss if his PC was programmed in the UK or somewhere else?? No he just wants the best value for money. Do yo think that he will champion your cause?? He didnt help manufacturing, miners etc, so why you??

Where is this huge amount of effort??
None evident. 10 years too late in any case.

Like I said - you stick to whatever it is you do wherever it is you do it. We'll look after the real world.

No. Except when it affects him. And offshoring programmers won't affect him directly. But it affects his suppliers. And he'll get pissed off with them. So they'll stop outsourcing so much when they finally realise (as many are) that outsourcing costs more than decently run insourced services.

It's not the business manager that needs convincing - well done to them for taking advantage of the policy, rules and regulations set by govt.

The govt has to change the policy, without that we are all doomed to live in third world conditions.

Those that have not kept pace with developments in their own back yard you can call 'uninformed'.
This assumes we have all been around contracting for the last 10 years - you may have been so along with others, do not assume the rest of us have been.

Herein lies the problem, who defines what the market rate is for the role?

Not sure the japanese is the best example - their economy has been in the doldrums for a while now and Honda, Nissan, Sony etc have manufacturing plants here.

The real world is all around you and I see no prospect of you or anyone else improving the lot of contractors.
