I really do believe there is a blacklist out there thats shared amongst the IT recruitment agencies, if the construction world was doing it then you can bet 100 to 1 that IT is at it too!, I have been out of work now since mid Dec 08 and have had nothing back from the 20 plus emails I send out from the top 2 IT job websites daily - either all the job adverts are false or I am on a blacklist as prior to Oct 08 I had calls coming in almost everyday asking if I was looking for work! I actually asked a friend of mine that works at a top Manchester IT recruitment company the question as a friend and was told that they did not partake but are sure that it does exist!
If an agent fones you up and asks "have you had many calls from other positions" - never ever tell them as they are just fishing for leads, just tell them that your fresh on the market and only been looking this week, if they ask you "who shall we avoid" tell them the same and finally those that ask "how much will you work for", ask them what the jobs worth to the client!
These recruitment agencies need to be brought to their knees now and the only way to do it is to either lobby the government or to get wise to their practices ourselves... ps the government wont do anything at all ever so its up to us!
If I am indeed on a list of sorts I know the company and the person that put me on there and I will avenge this with very real actions!
To all my fellow contractors - be very carefull who you talk to and be even more carefull who you get on the wrong side of!
The world of databases and IT is both our living and sometimes our enemy and in the UK this is so very true as we live in the most surveillance society in the world - official!
Good luck out there!
