    Agency Blacklisting

    Hi,

An agent contacted me recently for a possible role, and was asking for all places where I have send CV in past.

I told him that's not fair if as an agency they are talking to multiple candidates, then we also have right to apply at other places (my mistake that I tried to be reasonable).

Also, I told him, that if he tells me the co. name I can assure him, if I have been represented there or not. But the chap was adamant and finally the call ended by he saying that he would make my refusal to tell co. names as a note on my CV, for his colleagues, so as not to pursue this CV.

Will this harm me? This co. is part of S3 group, are there CV databases interlinked?

    Thanks

You're new to this game, aren't you?

    1) Don't worry - it was to scam/bully you to try to winkle themselves into jobs and thereby cheat you out of a possible contract. As to blacklisting, forget it. Most pimps (and particularly S3 pimps) would not cut off their noses if they think they could place a contractor in a role.

    2) For this reason (amongst many - crap IR35 contracts, anyone?) many contractors refuse to touch S3 related agencies with a barge pole.

Do a search on this forum and you'll see why...

He's bluffing. Report him to his superior.

Alternatively, be thankful that you don't have to deal with such an agency.

Was it Computer Futures? They are an S3 company and a few of them are pretty good yarn spinners!

As the others have said, there was no job, the agent was just fishing for leads.

Agencies from this particular group are notorious for these tactics. Thankfully they leave me alone these days.

Agency Blacklisting - it does happen. All of 'em are on mine now.
How did this happen? Who's to blame? Well certainly there are those more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable, but again truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror.

S3 are on my blacklist. I wouldn't get someone else to touch them with a barge-pole.

You should name and shame - then email a link. point out that two can play at that game.

(PS I dont actually recommend this strategy)

No point. Just tell him to poke it on the phone...
