Am I right to ask for more specificity with this inside IR35 role?

I've only taken Outside IR35 contracts to date and am very familiar with them.

I am now taking my first inside IR35 one.

Is it normal for me to only have a very generic contract with my umbrella company (generic in that it's clearly the same for every contractor regardless of the nature of their work) and then to have a very basic Schedule on top that just details client, Job Title, Pay Rate, Start and End date, place of work.

I was also expecting to also have some kind of summary of what I'd be working on beyond the above info and potentially a statement to say describe how holidays work (either some rules or to say there's no control over holiday, the latter being my preference) etc, but I've been told I'm not getting this and that this is normal. It's a very large well known company that's the client and they hire many contractors.

I was expecting a bit more detail on what basis I'm being hired/ fired for, potentially details on place of work and hours of work etc. Its not that I want restrictions or rules, It just feels a bit odd having a very generic contract, essentially being hired on a job title and not having things laid out in a bit more detail .
Some reassurance that this is Normal or that I should push for more clarity would be much appreciated.

Inside IR35 means D&C applies. Basically you do what the end client wants when they want it where they want it. So a detailed contract isn't really necessary.

When I worked inside I asked for a specific project description similar to when I work outside. It wasn’t as detailed in the end but ensured that contractually I was tied to a project and tasks, not just a random resource. If you can’t get that make sure the notice period isn’t too long. I also ensured that the location (100% remote) was in there too.

Even if it's inside it should have some level of detail of the work to be done so you are both in agreement and there is no miscommunication. If you don't there is the chance you'll turn up and be doing something completely different to what you thought you were brought on to do and you'll leave which doesn't help the client either.

Mal is right, they can do that but its pretty poor form to get a contractor in whatever their tax status with no detail about what they will do. That can only end in problems.

If it is a large client and all the contracts and SoW are exactly the same it just sounds like they are being lazy and running a sausage factory set up rather than putting the time in to each contract. If there is an agent involved it sadly makes perfect sense.

You should really nail what you will be doing at interview time. Even in outside contracts is possible for the message to be lost down the chain so the interview is the perfect time to actually speak to the people you'll be delivering work to. If you've done that in the interview then the paperwork is a bit irrelevant.

It's normal to have a generic contract with the umbrella company. You should get something more specific from the end client.
