Living in the UK with a client in Amsterdam

It looks like I might be heading back into the contracting world!

I had a read through some of the old threads - I am pretty curious as to what happened with Jason getting banned etc. but I can ask him that when I see him!

My client is in The Netherlands but I will be going over there a few days a month and the contract is deep inside IR35, no way to argue otherwise.,

Can anyone recommend an accountant who would know about the post Brexit admin that would need to be done for me to not shoot myself in the face with this one?

Deep inside IR35 - you need to sort out how expenses are going to be done and you want a specialist umbrella firm that knows how to handle overseas customers.

Lucy at Clarity would be the person to talk to (as she does have a lot of overseas end clients few other umbrellas are willing to touch).

Work permit? Don't forget the 90 day ruling...
Brexit is having a wee in the middle of the room at a house party because nobody is talking to you, and then complaining about the smell.

This sentence alone I just do not understand! Does the Netherlands client have UK interests or offices that you will Have to visit or work with or comply with?

If no to all, how can a foreign shored client stipulate UK tax law?

Someone will probably correct me, but AIUI if any part of the contractual chain has any kind of operation or presence in the UK and the worker is a UK resident, the contract is subject to UK Off-Payroll legislation. So you could be working for a Belgian company via a Luxembourg consulting firm, but if either of them has a teeny weeny office or factory or any type of business operation in the UK, Off Payroll legislation may apply.

I thought that the location of the client did not matter. If you lived in the UK you paid UK tax and this contract was clearly a permie style role hence it would be inside IR35. Did I misunderstand?

If, as above, the client does not have any UK subsidiary offices, and the role is minimally based in Amsterdam, then whether the role in Amsterdam is of a Permie nature or not, it should not matter to you or the UK tax laws.

Anyway, good luck with the contract.

                    Thanks for the pointers, all.

In the end I couldn’t get the rate I wanted so I turned it down and took another permie position instead!
