Where do I find short term contracts ?

    Hi All ,
I am looking for a short term contract 1-6 months in the IT sector. I`m interested to find out who the best agencies are to contact, or where online are the best places for me to go looking for short term work?

    Thank you

6 months - no problem, most contracts are this length, some may be 3 but most are.

    1 month - that's your problem. I get short contracts from ex-clients or ex-employers.

You're going to need to build your contacts before getting really short contracts.

You need to expand on what you do. The IT sector could mean anything from swapping out PCs to coding or project management.

        Give us more context.

        Why so short?
        What do you do?
How long and how good are you?
        What is your current situation?
Are you looking for something you can run in parallel with a quite perm job or something?

Read the first timers guide to the right. What you are asking isn't a simple question and if you are having to ask that I am sure there are a million things you've not considered yet and are going to have to ask again.

          Hi All ,
          Thank you for your replies.
I`m going to be out of the country for sometime early next year so I am looking for something to keep me going until then, so three months is more the mark of what I am looking .My profession is IT Project Management . I am currently not working.

          Thank you

How many years experience? Have you contracted before? Low experience and/or a new contractor adds risk to be able to get that gig. Also, it does happen, but often a client will spend time and effort to get someone in to do a reasonable sized job. It's not really worth the effort for a 1 monther. Minimum terms tend to be 3 months but that's generally because that is what their billing cycle is. There is usually an expectation of extensions to stay until the work is done.

A new contractor, looking for a piece of work that is three months absolute max is going to be a difficult ask. I guess you could just do the first period and give notice/not renew and leave but dicking clients around like that is not my bag so wouldn't be suggesting it.

But to answer your question, there is no preferred agency. They can only put you forward for the clients they have on their books so no one agent will be the answer to getting a gig. LinkedIn seems to be the way nowadays.

Something in this field is going to be very difficult to get even with a smaller client.
I would look at using other skills you might have in order to get shorter pieces of work

why not just get any contract? Why look for a 3 monther?
You can always walk after 3 months as "the role's just not for me".

                  Hi All,

Thanks for the advise on this one . I don't think I will take a longer contract just to jack it in after three months though
