Whilst my Mrs. has been off contract she has been learning a lot of testing frameworks, software, use of in different methodologies and integration.

Jenkins is one that does that I believe, web based at least.
Very interesting as it seems to run everything (change wise) in its own skin / partition so you can compare old code in the application to new.

It seems it is a very much an art these days.

How many did you contact the agent/client about before sending in your CV, and how many did you contact the agent/client about after sending in your CV?
How much tailoring of your CV did you do for each one?
What feedback did you get after being told you didn't get put forward for an interview?

Maybe you need to look closer at your CV / Covering Letter?
My CV is very good, except it is a 5 page one...??
~20 years experience so I suppose 5 page CV is not big..?? Thanks.

CV & cover letter are OK.

After getting couple of "too much experience" comments I removed details of experience older than 10 years. More than 10 years old just says title + duration only. Still it sis 5 page one, just to cover as many key words !

If your CV was good you would have agents contact you hours before the role goes on Jobserve.

Am I applying for too many roles..?? Is that the problem..??

                Yes.

Apply for roles that fit your CV.

And get someone to review your CV for you.

Yep, agree with this. I've only actually picked up two projects via applications - the rest find me. Personally, I mainly focus on JobServe as a way to gauge the market in general.

Well, something ain't right. For a start, you should be applying only to jobs that you're a good fit for - else you can come over as a chancer.

Don't wanna be rude but looking at this thread you don't really appear to have a solid grasp of what you are, what you offer and what the client wants. You've got quite a few posts to date but this thread shows quite an amount of naivety.

We have endless posts from newbies entering the market where we explain the process, not sure why you've not seen them.

No, I think the problem is you don't know what you're doing. (Although based on the threads you've started, it's not that surprising)

                      Cover letter? Why?
5 page CV? Means you haven't actually done much but you like to talk it up.
Get your CV down to 2 pages and ditch the cover letter.
Speak to the agent before sending your CV in.

While none of us on here particularly like agents, we can use them to our advantage. You keep in contact, you stay professional, then when a role comes up, they think of you, but also you can call them about it and that puts you ahead of the schmuck who sends in a 5 page CV with a 10 page covering letter.

When you're looking for work, phone the agents you know. Keep in their faces. When roles come up, if the agents you know are any good, they'll be all over them.
If every role you apply for is through an unknown agent or goes via a call centre half way round the world, then you are as likely to get it as every other person who spams in a CV.
To get a role you need to stand out from the crowd - first to the agent and then to the client, and agents are a bit like Donald Trump - they have no attention span. If you can't wow them with the first few lines of your CV, then you've lost them, your CV goes in the round filing cabinet.

But you've got 20 years of experience so you should know all this.
