Refused DV - can I apply for a SC later?

    Hi,

I was refused DV in July of last year for a job, which I then was obviously not able to take. I then found another job which now needs a SC - I didn't actually know this would be required until the second day I started.

Does anyone know if this will cause issues?

I phoned the enquiry line and the person told me they didn't think it should cause any issues, but they didn't sound too sure either. I've now started this job and I'm worried I'll be point-blank refused SC because I was refused DV. I know SC is checked to a far lesser extent than DV, but still - surely all my information that was collected before would be available and may still be applicable to the new application?

Any advice would be much appreciated. I haven't mentioned it to my new employer yet because I wanted to make sure there was a genuine need and I wasn't making myself an issue when there may be no need.

    Thanks

No point hiding it, it will come out anyway. But it might not matter although you won't know that till it happens.
    Blog? What blog...?

DV is more rigourous than SC. So maybe that thing you did which got you knocked back for DV won't matter for SC. Simply "knocked back for DV, so knocked back for SC" makes no sense. (Though the other way around would be a no brainer).
Down with racism. Long live miscegenation!

I figured as much too, but they have access to my information now and have everything they found previously. For all I know, whatever got me refused for DV could get me refused for SC too?

Hmm. That's interesting. Half of me thinks they should be running independently. Wouldn't there be a data protection issue if they use data gathered on DV for SC as that wasn't what the data was originally gathered for. That said it would make sense for them to use any info they have when it comes to security.

Depends why you were rejected DV, obviously. Although SC is less stringent, they will take into consideration any clearances you've failed, and they will ask this on the forms. If by talking to people who know you (which can be part of the DV process) has revealed something that makes you "risky" in an untrustworthy sense it goes without saying they'll likely reject you for SC too, even if they might not have found this out if they had not tried to DV clear you.

I've heard about someone being stripped of SC when they failed DV clearance, but have no idea of the reason why they failed, or if it was because of something that happened since getting the SC.

You'll only know by going through the SC process but keep looking for other work just in case
