Out of curiosity, have you ever contacted a pimp who got you a contract in the past and asked them to let you know if they get new contracts? I have, but either new contracts were not appealing or I never heard from them despite them saying that they will keep an eye out for me.

I can assure you I give my 200% in every contract and do not leave halfway.

the problem here, generally speaking of course, is that said pimp usually moves role and/or company and specialises in a different area.

for example there were plenty of pimps in the devops and cloud space that moved on last year because the contract work dried up.

many of them moved into internal corporate HR roles.

would also add that what i do now is very different to what i did 10 years ago (showing my age now) and past pimps cant get me the work i need now but they are fun to keep in touch with.

in terms of the market there are confirmed stories of being offered contract roles with a single stage interview for 15 minutes and offered same day for outside IR35 roles.

this is a complete turn around from early 2019, looks like the 3-year contracting bear market has come to an end - for now.

The market is dry in my line of work. My old client has a few openings. When I worked with them, it was inside IR35 but came with a 1 month notice. If I ring up, they will take me back in a heartbeat! Do I take it or do I wait until the market improves?

i would'nt touch a ir35 role myself but i dont have to pay your bills

Given some of the tricks I’ve seen and heard be pulled I wouldn’t be rushing to take an outside IR35 contract unless I knew all the parties involved.

there are some nasty tricks being pulled and a clawback t&c is something I would avoid.

Yes..... There is one agency I've worked with a few times and if they know I'm available and a role is suitable, I get a call before they even go to market. My current role is exactly that scenario. They knew I was available, the role came in, I got called, was the sole interviewee and I started the gig two days later.

To prove that sometimes there is an exception to every rule I have an interview tomorrow for a contract that I first had conversations about at the beginning of December before it got 'paused' so once in a while these things come back to life.

Exactly - I started a gig last week after having the first chat with the agent at the start of Nov last year. It was 'very urgent' then and that was after they had been looking to get someone since August/September! I kept having to chase the agent (it was complicated further by another party being involved as well as the end client) and it paid off.
