Agency asking for details of my Accountant

My agency is asking for details of my accountant.

I have never been asked for my accountant details before by an agency. It seems a bit weird.

At first I though that it may be something to do with the new agency reporting details but they do not specify that the details of the accountant is required.

Does anyone else provide their accountant details to the agency?

    Thanks

I suppose that I could yes but that would be a fib.

I am not that bothered about it but I would like to know why.
Maybe it is for a reference but that would be a bit odd and the accountant would charge me for the reference.

It is a bit odd though. They might as well ask who supplies my electricity. Both are not really relevant to anything.

Tell them their request is odd and ask them why they need the details, then report back here.

Make sure you ask them via email or record the call if they answer you there.

There is no good reason why they need your accountants details as all the information about your company can be found out through Companies House.

I have asked them in an email why they have asked for the details of my accountant.
I ignored their first email but then they sent another high priority email indicating that it was very important.

I will report back here the response. This is what makes the forum useful.
I will give it a few days to see what happens.

                Reply back to them.

Is it in response to a question on one of their Due diligence checklists that looks like below?

Did you take accountancy advice before you commenced contracting via your contracting entity?
If yes, please provide the name and contact details of your advisor below:

This is an IR35 liability assessment question; have you been professionally advised how to treat your gross income in respect of this contract. It ignores the point that most of us use specialists for reviews to establish our IR35 exposure, not our accountants, and we are not bound to follow that advice anyway.

It's their contract and their client that actually determines your status. It's about time we started getting aggressive about this kind of intrusive detail that is actually of zero value anyway, just so they can blame someone when their own DD checks break down. Ask them why they need you to tell them what your position is. Bet they don't have an answer
