Somehow, I really don't think that people from the UK are specifically being targeted. I expect it's for all arrivals from 'third countries' but the grauniad is playing the victim instead of getting over it.

Oh dear some people are just ignorant, the UK, Cyprus & Ireland opted out of the Schengen area decades ago.
El Reeker You may need to get your carer to read the original story to you with the aid of crayons.
According to the European Commission, the system will apply when entering 25 EU countries (all member states apart from Cyprus and Ireland) and four non-EU countries (Norway, Iceland, Switzerland and Lichtenstein) that are part of the border-free Schengen area along with most EU member states.

Well if Ireland isn't obeying Schengen rules what would you expect? If not just fly from Ireland and McGuinness is your uncle.
I am ahead on the marketing if so - "Dublin - the terrorists favourite airport"!

Irish Citizens (EU passport holders) will not.

You're mixing up Schengen with the general rights of EU passport holders.
Fact is, doing anything in the EU (buying/selling stuff, travel, moving there for work/retirement) has got harder/costlier since we left. Which stands to reason because we're now a 3rd country like USA, Australia etc.Comment

To be clear vetran Bulgarians, Cypriots, Irish and Romanians will not be subject to these checks.
Also the title thread is wrong. Fingerprinting and facial scans for Brits who are resident in the UK and don't hold an EU/EEA/EFTA passport as well starts in October.Down with racism. Long live miscegenation!Comment
