I had a gin that was blue. It turned purple on the addition of tonic. Rather like Nigel's face when he's looking over the channel.

The base grain spirit is most likely produced in the Netherlands, however it would be distilled with water, juniper berries and other botanicals in a UK distillery. He's only allowed to call it London Dry Gin if no flavouring is added after the distilling process. You'll learn this stuff if you go on a gin distillery tour, which I highly recommend, and you may even get to taste the raw grain spirit (which is about 85% alcohol), a couple of drops will be more than enough

And at £40 a bottle, it better be very, very good, or he's going to be left with a lot of unsold stock. There are too many excellent gins in the £25-£35 range.
