    House of Commons Amendments

So, not only did Gauke vote for it then, he actually tabled the amendment.

Of course, that doesn't stop him being a complete hypocrite now.
Gauke's position is an interesting one. On one hand he can't be seen to back down from the position of the Treasury, on the other hand, using the exact wording he used is bound to be picked up on and show him up publicly as a hypocrite. Is he there in his role as Treasury Secretary? He's not 'bound' as he'd have everyone think by the courts decisions, yet he can't be seem to do an about face from the Treasury position. At the same time, despite the letters Brannigan and co have written for him, there must be part of him that still thinks this is wrong. Does he have scope to abstain?

You are overlooking the fact that your evaluation assumes he has a conscience and a moral compass. These arent qualities that ambitious career political elites possess.
Thank goodness not all politicians fall into that category and are brave enough to stand up for what the right thing to do is even if it limits their own careers. No names mentioned, we know who they are.

I'm a born optimist. But take a look at his wiki photo, surely the face of an honest, decent man

No ... wait ... maybe not ... That must be a more recent one.

Could it be that he himself had previously made use of a similar arrangement, hence his vehement opposition at the time; and then once in his current position, was able to negotiate with the HMRC?!!
Just drawing a possible analogy with our 'friend' who turned Queen's Evidence at the Human Rights challenge in the court.

Or maybe I am becoming too paranoid about the whole matter!

Whatever his own personal views on the matter, or those of the Tory party, it is just too much of a political hot potato to be seen bowing to "tax dodgers". Labour and the press would have a field day with it.

His hands are tied. He did concede in a meeting with a constituent that it was "not HMRC's finest hour" but that's probably about as far as he dare go in criticising the policy.

                  Forum threads on General

                  Hi all

I don't want to start a discussion about it on this thread...

But could I respectfully ask that members and supporters of NTRT don't engage in debates regarding BN66 on the "General" forum.

The perpetrator of these threads thrives on people replying to him, with the ultimate aim of getting these threads ranking high up in the search engines, by repeating certain keywords and getting lots of comments/views.

So lets just cut off the oxygen that feeds him and (and a few others) by not replying to anything they say. Add them to your ignore list and don't even bother viewing the threads.

                  Thanks for your support.

So with this in mind do we know how the committee members voted before ? Is there any way pf seeing that or indeed how any of our MPs (Charles Hendry - Cons) voted ?
