Does anyone have any idea how HMRC are getting on setting up their separate unit to make us bankrupt? How long do we have until they start sending letters (which I know can be appealed)?

Just to reiterate what I said yesterday, we are not expecting S58 to get raised.

Ooops, thanks. Missed that post. It was actually quite entertaining, well JRM was. Posh, funny and didn't take himself too seriously. When asked what he would do if he were chancellor he said something like "It would not be appropriate for one such as myself who is so new to the house to aspire to such high office but I'm sure that my colleagues on the front bench can advise the chancellor and that debate such as this guide his thinking." I think he was suggesting a top rate of tax of 36% at that point.

Nope, not a chance. By Parliamentary convention after a clash between the HoL and the HoC over a budget in the early 20th Century that eventually lead to the Parliamentary Act, the Lords bowed to the Commons' supremacy on any Finance Act.

There's no way the HoL can interfer with this Bill.

I must be missing something and not understanding the process.

So, we lobbyed for a change to the finance bill, this was rejected. The finance bill reading will not have mention of this rejected change so unsure if anything to do with S58 will be discussed and if it is not sure how much importance it will be given as it was not included.

So where do we go from here? It would be very useful to know the next steps at a very high level and potential timeline, appreciating things can obviously change.

It would be nice if montp were to update us (and send a request along the lines DR outlined). Sadly I think we have more chance of HMRC being honest than montp communicating.
