Must say I always liked him. Seemed a nice guy. I think it was a case of he kept digging himself in deeper.

If you owed lots of money to many of people and are ordered to pay them back by the FSA would you carry on regardless and get some very expensive cars or pull your belt in and try to pay them back? If you have no means to pay people back while carrying on a lavish lifestyle then sooner or later something has to give or people are going to get stung. Someone who would act like that is either arrogant beyond belief or stupid despite whether they are nice to talk to or not.

Personally if I was in the situation where I was obliged to recompense people (and I would do that morally before being forced) I would do the right thing ASAP thing rather than rub my disregard for them in my victims faces by blowing money that should go to them.

The court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.

But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.”

But he was practising without a practising certificate which is the main reason he was struck off by the ACCA.

That's absolutely nothing to do with the investment scheme.

That's absolutely nothing to do with the allegations of not paying over his clients' tax money.

So that's three completely different breaches of law and regulation. I'm sure lots of "wrong 'uns" are nice to talk to! No doubt that's why a lot of con men are successful in ripping people off.

I agree that what he did was bad. He just didn't seem that kind of guy. I have to say I'm astonished.
