Which Accountant

Hence the reason for my question - it was an accountant friend who suggested it, but not sure how aware of contracting he is.

I see some accountants use this structure themselves. I don't know if it really suits one man contractors though (a partnership of one?)

I would be interested to know what the difference is - LLP is a relatively new trading structure isn't it?

Most professional firms trade as partnerships or LLPs. The main reason for this is to allow them to admit new partners without a tax charge, which wouldn't be possible if the main trading vehicle were a company. But a partnership or LLP is not usually as tax efficient as a limited company for a contractor as:-

1) it doesn't avoid NIC;
2) you are taxed on an arising basis whereas through an income you can defer/avoid tax by restricting drawings from the company; and
3) it is less straightforward to utilise one's spouse's basic rate allowances etc

LLPs have been around for a few years now, and they do suit some business' better. However, you'll probably find most agencies won't work with one as they specifiy Limited or Umbrella only.

I've been happy with InTouch since moving to them. NW also seemed quite helpful when I approached them but less flexible and would have charged extra for some of the things I needed.

I am with SJD who (used to) post on here as well and am quite happy with them although someone mentioned their charges going up which I haven't looked in to yet. Much happier going with these big firms that specialise than a local one man band

Agreed - especially when you're starting out (am also happy with SJD - except possibly with the price).

Public Liability, Professional Indemnity and thinking about some cover for laptop and stuff while working away - possibly India - any recommendations?

I use Caunce O'Hara (click the insurance link over there ---->>>>) and they've been fine. Well, all I've done is give them money and they give me an online download certificate portal. Never had to claim. I just had to up my Professional Indemnity to an amount as I've just signed up for another contract with an IB and they (Caunce O'Hara) were quite helpful.

Brookson offering me a lot -such as free until I start earning, but I can get everything setup? First month free also, plus they have online services with iphone and Web.

First contract might find me in India so online important - anyone had experience of Brookson?

Struggling to decide between Brookson, Danbro, IN Touch or Nixon Williams
