    PCG Statement on IR35

Great news for PCG membership as IR35 looks set for the scrapheap!

As you will be aware the PCG team has lobbied on IR35 since its inception. Efforts have stepped up in recent months and we are delighted that these efforts have borne fruit.

It is my great pleasure to announce that in the Coalition’s full programme for Government, the new Government declares it will:

“Review IR35 as part of a wholesale review of all small business taxation, and seek to replace it with simpler measures that prevent tax avoidance but do not place undue administrative burdens or uncertainty on the self employed, or restrict labour market flexibility.”

The commitment appears as the fourth of 20 priorities for improving the UK’s ability to do business.

PCG is a force for change, but to drive this through, we need to stand up as a community and get behind PCG. PCG is an association with 20,000 members (people like you and me), a powerful voice, a source of independent advice and information and a vital network dedicated to the needs of the freelancers, contractors and consultants in the UK - the more members we have, the stronger our voice. Uniquely among organisations representing the contracting community PCG has no commercial interest in preserving the status quo.

We are all in this together and together we are stronger. So please use this positive news to encourage other freelancers to show their support by joining PCG.

I ask you to pass the link to your contractor colleagues with the recommendation that they join the PCG, a body that is providing vital support, gaining growing recognition for the value of freelancing and effecting positive change.
    Well then.

How did this happen? Who's to blame? Well certainly there are those more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable, but again truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror.

Abolishing IR35 but replacing it with laws that make us unavoidably pay double the tax is not something any of us want.

Really doesnt sound positive to me.

It was at one time. The really big worry in the early 2000s was "Am I going to have to pay this or not". Dawn Primarolo clarified it for us : "If you're caught by it, you have to pay it. What could be clearer". Stupid bint.

Where I live and work, there's no dividend route for paying yourself, because there is no tax relief on dividend payments. So anything I pay myself attracts income tax, and the local equivalent of ERNIC and EENIC. This doesn't put me off contracting. However, the Swiss are far more understanding and sensible about expenses, and have reasonable tax rates.

            More pcg bulltulip!

A review isnt the same as something being scrapped. And, the coalition has said it wont scrap IR35 only that after a review it could change.
I couldn't give two fornicators! Yes, really!

Jeez. you really need to grow up and join the real world. Don't know if you've noticed but we are in deep doodoo and HMG - that is, you and me and every other UK resident - needs every penny it can find.

They can't afford to be seen to cancel a tax, especialy if doing so appears to favour a comparatively well paid and fairly invisible sector. What they can do is sort out how it is to be applied. Right now, that is about as good as we could hope for.

Of course if you stick with the archaic and childish view that PCG aren't of any real importance, then fine. You're wrong, but seriously, given the evidence, WGAS. We're all going to be paying more tax thanks to 13 years of Gordon-induced incompetence. the best we can hope for is that we actually know how much. Meanwhile, six people representing 19,000 people, from a standing start about 5 years ago, have gained a major concession from a new government and have a serious voice at the highest levels of government. Dunno about you but I think that's pretty bloody impressive.

I dont need or ask for the vast majority of services they provide. Let the Labour voters and those that use the services pay for them. Death to socialism.
