I could make payments today - so paid salaries and set up payment for HMRC for dues at a later date.
However I still can't move money between accounts - tried calling them but was on hold so long that I gave up.

This might make things work a little smoother?

I can now ALMOST make payments between the accounts, after I rang up and they linked them together.

I can get as far as choosing which account to transfer to and from, and the amount.

Then I get an error message.

Also, it seems that Firefox 3 isn't supported, and nor is Google Chrome. But "luckily" Internet Exploder is - so now, using my Linux laptop, there are no supported browsers available (unless I want to go back to FF2 which I probably can't even download now).

They told me someone from india would phone me back at a suitable time. Im still waiting! Perhaps they think there's no point seeing as I told them I'd be closing the account asap!

Still need to use the flippin' thing though in the meantime. Blurts.

Not waht I had been led to believe

I had two items from Abbey in the post today - fantastic - I expected it would have everything I needed to get online ... silly me. I should have known better. One contained the ID they had already given me over the phone and said that two more items would be sent over the next 14 days and I would need all of them.

They have been very helpful and responsive on the phone - I have a direct line number to someone who has been sorting out both my businesses. He is excellent at ringing back when he says he will. Well done on that score.

This doesn't surprise me at all about Abbey. They are THE most incompetent bank I have ever had misfortune to do business with.

I'd advise everybody to steer well clear of anything that's owned by Santander - things might go well at first, but when you change something, eg address, a whole world of pain opens up.

I recently changed the company address, but Abbey were so incompetent that they didn't update their db's properly, despite numerous phone calls, letters, faxes. Upshot was they sent my company debit card (and pin letter) to the old address (a communal address as it was flats), where some scrote promptly helped himself to the card and pin and took 1800 pounds from the company account. After much arguing, Abbey paid the money back.

Total and utter incompetence. Avoid at all costs.

I'm currently using HSBC - free banking for 18 months - no problems at all. And they've just upgraded their website with no problems.

                    Same sorry story from me...

I stumbled across your website whilst googling for further info into this debacle. I have been following its progress on the moneysavingexpert.com forums. Here are my experiences... I have 2 business accounts with Abbey, one a current account and the other a reserve account. My first hurdle was that it doesn't support any Mac browsers, so unless this gets addressed quickly, I'm off to another bank as this is unacceptable. Next, I somehow fluked migrating my user details to the upgraded system, although it did take about a dozen attempts and was far from intuitive. When I got to my new home page, I actually was looking at two current account details (both with identical balances and transactions) and my reserve account. Payment info had been retained but I wasn't able to move money between accounts. Gave up trying to contact them via the phone, holding for over 30 minutes on three separate occasions. Decided to call once the dust began to settle on Friday morning and got through pretty quickly. Spoke to a bloke who made no apology for the company policy of ignoring Mac users. Explained about the duplicate accounts and the inability to move money between accounts, he said he would “jot these problems down on a piece of paper and pass them to the relevant department, who would address it within 48 hours”. I’m not holding my breath. At the end of the day, I am an Apple Macintosh support specialist running a Mac consultancy, on principal I will have to move my accounts elsewhere if they can’t support this platform. I’m not aware of any other bank that consciously doesn’t support Mac browsers.

Do they still make IE on a Mac? If Chrome isn't supported then I guess neither is Safari... who cares if Linux is supported, but Macs are quite often used by business people.
