Not if I have my way.

Within 12 months we should have a Conservative govt.

If the JCHR rule that the legislation is incompatible then Cameron will have to take notice.

    Why?

Because he wrote to the JCHR, on behalf of a constituent, calling for a review.

    This is our ace card.

          JCHR - final summary

Having received 90 testimonies now, I have decided to close the survey. Here is the summary going to the JCHR.

          Financial Impact
46 people provided a detailed breakdown of their liability to tax and interest, and the averages were approximately:

          Tax - £113,000
          Interest - £27,000
          Total - £140,000

          Of the 90 who responded:
          • 55 (61%) said they could not meet the tax demand, even if they sold all their assets including the family home
          • 29 (32%) could only settle by selling (or possibly remortgaging) the family home
          • 6 (7%) could cover the liability from savings/investments or by delaying retirement

          Human Impact
The majority of those who responded had families with children. The fear of financial ruin has placed a terrible strain on many relationships, and some marriages have already broken down.
          • 43 (48%) people said they were suffering from severe stress
          • 14 (18%) reported problems sleeping at night
          • 7 (8%) said they were suffering from depression

Outstanding news DR, many thanks again, and to Brillopad and the others who have led in this campaign. We all owe you a real debt. This is the best news I have had in a long time.

Why is it a waste of money? Surely the alternative is no attempt at enforcement (though I personally would MUCH prefer the old pre SA system of determination by the tax office)

Based on the testimonies, the Joint Committee on Human Rights are opening an inquiry into s58.

I will update you as soon as I know what format this will take and timescales etc.

But the main thing is that it has been accepted for review.

Politicians are wonderfull people, as long as they stay away from things they don't understand, like working for a living!
