    Back to Zero...

    Hello,

I too received my amended Self Assessment returns last week, now showing the tax outstanding of zero .

In the envelope I received two letters. The first one states that following the appeal my tax outstanding has been reduced to £0.00

The second letter which acknowledges the appeal then says that I have some tax postponed but some to pay now, with a request to "Please pay any amounts shown as payable now..." which equates to over £10,000.

As far as I am concerned they have about as much chance of me handing over this £10,000 as they have of me offering them a complete settlement.

How can one letter state I have nothing to pay and the other £10,000.

    MUPPETS !!!!

Do luv the way theyve worded the additional year they were too slow inquirying about as being "ommited from my return and discovered"... the numbers were always there from the start.. they just didnt look at them!!!

              The cheeky bar-stewards.

I dont think they'll get away with that as it can easily be proved that the information was given at the correct time.

                Short answer - no.

I haven't heard from MP what the current CN tally is but I assume they are still trickling in. There have been the usual catalogue of HMRC cockups as you would expect.

And still no news on the date for the JR.

I am adding significant posts & news to the front-page as we go along if you need a quick catch-up:

                      HMRC Lose Again

Perhaps it's because we're getting closer to Christmas, but it appears that every week brings more evidence of HMRC's inability to understand their own rules.

The latest botched (mal?)administration concerns taxing foreign dividends - HMRC have been getting this wrong since 1973. As a result they will now be due their victim £1.2 billion.

You can pick up more of the story here:

                      http://news.morningstar.com/newsnet/...00522_univ.xml

As we go through this process which will ultimately result in the retrospective part of BN66 being struck off, remember these cases. HMRC routinely get things wrong. They are bullies. They need reform. It's about time they started treating taxpayers, the people who pay their wages, fairly.

Where you are the victim of HMRC's errors, don't complain in a small way. Get evidence. Ask for a justification. Ask for an apology. Write to your MP. Make a noise. Eventually the din will become deafening and the Parliament will act to reform HMRC and the rule making process so that it can be fairer.

This isn't a one off case. It's just the latest one. Here are some more:

                      http://www.channelweb.co.uk/crn/news...leaves-3794544

Perhaps if there were financial penalties on the individual officers within HMRC then less of these "mistakes" would be made.

We want to be treated fairly. That doesn't mean according to some vague idea of fairness in greedy gordon's head. It does mean according to a written set of rules that will not be changed after the event. That's how we work in this country.
There's an elephant wondering around here...
