"Fairness" is a word bastardised by the New Liebour government.

Good to know that HMRC are losing cases though.

I too received my amended Self Assessment returns last week, now showing the tax outstanding of zero .

In the envelope I received two letters. The first one states that following the appeal my tax outstanding has been reduced to £0.00

The second letter which acknowledges the appeal then says that I have some tax postponed but some to pay now, with a request to "Please pay any amounts shown as payable now..." which equates to over £10,000.

As far as I am concerned they have about as much chance of me handing over this £10,000 as they have of me offering them a complete settlement.

How can one letter state I have nothing to pay and the other £10,000.

      MUPPETS !!!!

      MajorGowen....
I had this as well, after an hour or so of panic I realised that the Please pay now amount was the exact amount I HAD paid for the years in question, ie they've only suspended payment on additional amounts owed as a result of BN66, ie nothing to pay now

I hear a whisper that the montpelier MD just received an email :-

          Dear Mr MD of montpelier,

In the absence of any sort of regular update from Montpelier, a group of us have started a thread on Contractor UK :-

          http://forums.contractoruk.com/accou...apter-3-a.html

We have over 50 posters and many more lurkers. The thread has been visited almost 30,000 times in the past 3 weeks!

Recently someone posted the HMRC Newsletter which enabled others to slice and dice it before it arrived thus helping to keep calm. Many others have found it useful - even just talking to others in the same boat can be therapuetic!

We are aware that HMRC monitor the forums and we don't want any sort of sensitive information on there. But we would like to work with Montpelier rather than feeling we are some sort of underground movement.

It would be jolly nice if you could register and join the thread. Perhaps give us some sort of update. It would be even better if you could send a link to the thread to all members or put it in one of your update letters.

A lot of people are going to be made bankrupt if Montpelier lose - all will suffer real hardship. At the end of the day it is the members who stand to lose.

Please think carefully before responding. I know your initial reaction will be no. But you could get real benefits by working with us.

Thanks for listening and a merry christmas to you.

          Best regards,

Nice one. If he does start posting on here I hope that he's a little more "interactive" than the last MontP MD that posted - remember, the guy who came on and posted that he was leaving MontP but wanted to let us all know that he thought the scheme was sound, then was never seen again (after being inundated with replies)!

Finally received my closure notices for my 4 years in the scheme anyway. I was hoping that hector had forgotten me but no such luck! The appeals are due by 26th December so that's 2 days lost for Xmas day and Boxing day.

Been lurking for a while, with MP since 2001. Have received IR letters invetigating all years but haven't received any CN's yet. Just logged onto the HMRC SA gateway and can't see any 'payment suspended' etc messages. In fact don't see any mention of an investigation against any tax year ? Where should I be looking ???

Keep up the great work on this thread...

a very warm welcome and thank you for de-lurking!

So far montp have received just over 200 CNs out of about 1500 so a long way to go.

I do wish HMRC would pull their finger out on this one.
