    Selling company car and motorbike.

So, not about the taxation. No 'ask your accountant' or anything required. This about the process of the sale only.

So. Never sold second have vehicles on autotrader/ebay before so what do I do about test drives and the like? When they rock up I'd imagine they want a test drive. For the car do I go with them or do they generally go themselves? What do I check regarding insurance? I guess it would be third party under their policy or do you just go with them for a spin be prepared to say they (the seller) was driving if there was an issue? Any checks or diligence people carry out before test drives?

Same question for a motorbike. What do you have to do before they take it for a spin to make sure it doesn't get crashed or nicked?

Thanks in advance for all the sensible replies, the rest? bring it on.

Difficult with a motorbike to tag along unless there's room for you to sit on the back all cosy like.

I would accompany the driver in a car so you can answer questions they may have and they can't claim the AC doesn't work, etc.

Most insurances will provide third party cover for someone driving with your permission. I would check they have a valid driving license though.

      sell to a trader.

seriously though, you have VAT to consider so a trader might be a better option.

Question 2 on the check list thingy is so badly worded:
        2. Is it new or used?

A vehicle is still new even if it’s registered and has miles on the clock from delivery
So my 17 year old car could be considered new as it has miles on the clock from delivery...

[cough]So, not about the taxation. [/cough]

Traders aren't shifting anything at the moment so they are giving silly prices almost akin to the webuyanything robbers.

Let's assume, for the sake of argument, they may not be company vehicles and it was a clever ruse to keep the post in the prof forums. Asking for a friend etc.

For the car, then you ride along with them.

For the bike, offer a test ride if you are comfortable that the buyer is genuine and ask to hold their ID and keys while they do it.

I intend to insure it to the hilt using the most expensive example I can find on autotrader plus a bit more so if it does disappear I'll get more for it I guess.

I assume it's cash in bank before you hand the keys over and the like? I won't be accepting cash even though the car is in the low 1000's
