SC Cleared - to apply for contract

An add for one of the contracts I was considering, states that the applicant needs to be SC cleared.

How do I get SC cleared? My understanding is that SC Clearance is given per contract basis, and it can only be applied for by a client.
Is this not the case? Is it easier for a client to apply for clearance for somebody that already holds a current clearance?

It's worth noting that that entire site is in breach of both the OSA and the Cabinet Office guidelines and best practice rules surrounding clearance. It started as an agency looking to cut down its workload by only taking on cleared people, ignoring the fact that to declare you have clearance to a given level is a breach of the OSA all by itself.

Which is why, I applied saying that getting clearance would not be a problem.
I doubt they would put me forward for it, even though the job matches my skills perfectly!!!

Which is what I'm trying to do... It's not my problem that agencies do not understand the rules, but the more contractors that tell them about them, the more chance we have of getting them to learn.

A reputable way of getting SC cleared and not doing it the cowboy route (e.g. take a permie role and bolting as soon you can) is to take fixed term contracts that are offered by government on their main site at Civil Service Jobs.
