    Recommend accountant in London?

    Hi guys,

Can anyone recommend a good old fashioned contractor accountant based in London?

Someone who can help me with my business and individual tax affairs?

Leaving Crunch in pursuit of a more local, personal client-accountant relationship!

    Cheers

    Z

In my experience you are going to get less time from a local body and potentially questionable advice if he's not a contractor specialist. But that's just my tuppence worth.

Why not have a look at SJD? You've got a London office and are a contractor specialist.

There is a long thread on here with accountant recommendations, I suggest you find it.

Agree - although they do exist. I have a local accountant who is a contractor specialist....and provides a much better service than the established specialists who are often referred to on here. I guess they are doing something right however.

          London

I'm sure there some of the contractor accountants travel to London quite frequently, just like ourselves.

            What makes you say that?
            Any examples?
Admittedly my current one is not contractor acct but besides one major issue everything's been fine for 3 years.

Still in process of searching for a new one but what is the main difference between a contractor acct and a general one (or say dentist/doctor/cleaner/carpenter one)?

You know that running your LTD in the best way is PRIMERLY your own task, not someone else's, don't you?

Admittedly my one man band wasn't very good in the end and I ended up binning him but he seemed to be a fire from the hip type. They didn't have much of a filing system and no fancy SLA's over answering calls. If he was on holiday that was that. He deals with all sorts of accounts and where its generally the same I just didn't feel he knew enough about contracting to answer my question there and then. A set up churning contractors accounts I imagine would be a lot slicker and process based. They are effectively doing the same thing over and over. As we have seen there are people that are quite happy with their non contractor one man bands but in my situation it didn't work and I've been very happy with contractor specialists for 8 years now.

Probably nothing much when it comes to the basics but a specialist will have been asked the same questions over and over so the answers tried and tested. They (I imagine) are a little more interested in what is happening to our market than your generalist. I'm sure there are many subtle differences I don't know or haven't touched.

Says the guy that's running his on an internet forum at the moment

You are spending far too much time thinking about this. Give Gorilla Accounting a ring. Myself and a number of people on this forum are with them and they are great. You get Freeagent Portal thrown in and they've got lots of expertise from working with other contractor specialists. They do everything I need at a decent price as well. I just don't see the point of tying yourself up in knots. There are plenty of others in the first post of the Recommend and Accountant sticky which I've revamped.

Stop worrying about it and just pick up the phone and start speaking to them IMO.

With MTD looming, an "old fashioned accountant" is probably the last thing you need, TBH.

I'm a one time poster recommending a company no one has heard of.
